Catenary



Chains, cables, and ropes display catenary, which is a downward loop necessary to support the weight of the device suspended. You see catenary most commonly on telephone and power lines suspended from towers.

Crenelated

 



The tops of castles, fortresses and the Great Wall of China are typically crenelated, or slotted, so that soldiers can fire weapons without peeking over the top of the wall.
